has anybody ever tried/thought of using a frame tube as an oil cooler?
lots of surface area exposed to air,or would it get too hot for paint?
did i pick wrong week to give up booze/crack?

As in my case with the earls cooler, fabbed up a sleeved collar with flat plate to frame side reflector threaded mounts... Worked out well, no issues to date...

i got these lines used off fleabay for a great deal with the fittings and the thermostat era cool thingy...the linjes and gear came just as they are in the pic...i made some ugly imo flat bar aluminum bend drilled holes/ mounts for a nice perfect condition lockhart smaller cooler...(why did they put the cool letters /lockhart colored logo) on top where they are hidden???perfect for riding yr round here and not over cooling
...then when i went to stretch out and route the lines around the blocks fins to mount the engine fittings...

it covered a good chunk of the clean MKII mill  ....so i backed off that day...and removed everything again...

the under engine mount like your picture will loose the cool thermo :( with out adding all kinda head aches and in the end it would be behind the header or under the bike anyways so bye bye thermo...ect....maybe a good resto polish and shelve it for someone else or another project.....

to bad i really like the old school thermo too and it was all set to wrap and hook up...but the cover issue and the hardware store hose clamps ...tiny , but still...turned me off...

there we go...that is the pic i was looking for....

see this fella has more going on and the lines go with that theme...

i want a blacked out and polished parts ..mostly stock look with some era mods and a paint scheme blue...like Tony's and others.....

to me the thermo is coolio but gonna draw too much attention to the center of the bike

Keep in mind... That the run places the cooler lines directly below your filter cover...

As much as I liked this idea, the concept of a cooler is to cool the oil... This close to the engine cases/between the exhaust risers made me wonder if it would add heat back into the lines.

Just something to think about...

i agree that having the oil run next to the bend where the heat is getting slammed/turned to leave the combustion is gonna reheat the lines right there...but coming and going on those "lines/static) is the inner oil in both it's hot and cool form (fluid /moving ect)...so it may really not be that bad ....the routing he uses if you click the pic is along the motor mount frame cradles and by the rear brake swing arm pivot and leaves the underside clear....

anyone know links to those nicer type clips he uses to keep the hose clean and stable routes.....his clips are red but i have seen the same in all colors...do folks makke their own?or is there a source?
