Putting new plugs in my newly cleaned and installed head and I seem to have done a job on the #1 spark plug hole. I don't know how, but I've messed up the first thread and now I can't get the plug in.

Any tips on how to fix this? It looks like it's only the first thread, so I guess it's not too bad, but I can't get it to thread in now.

Thanks

Here's a pricey tool that's designed to go into the sparkplug hole and pick up the good threads on the inside.

I bought one of those back tap tools last year and used it on a couple of bikes. Works great, certainly much better and quicker than having to pull the head and install an insert. It was designed for just the problem you currently have.

lisle tools makes a plug hole threadchaser that works very well and they are cheap you should be able to get one from a canadian tire near you they are about 10 dollars you will need the 14 mm thread pitch the tool has two different thread sizes on each one one is 14 the other is 18 mm. i have one in every one of my tool boxes they come in handy and now from now on put anti seize on the plug threads every time you take them out especally where you live with all that humidity.

Thanks guys. That back tap tool looks pretty cool. I have a plug hole chaser but couldn't get anywhere with it. Couldn't even get that started. A buddy of mine is going to see if he can drop by today. He has more experience with this type of stuff. If this proves fruitless I'll probably just take off the head again and thread it in from behind.

Thanks

Extremely wise plan! Safest(metal shavings) and best way to go ;)

Got it done guys. Took the head off and used the chaser on the other side. Have the head back on now, and just need to put the cams back in and time it again. Went pretty quickly. The first time I took the head off and back on took forever since I was nervous about messing something up or forgetting something. Much easier the second time around.

Thanks for your help.

Ditto. I have done this method. Grease the tap well. Go slow and since its at the top just clean the bad area. A little frag will probably blow right thru if it occurs. Oops..saw you got it done.:woohoo:

LOL, yeah. I ended up taking the head off because I couldn't get the chaser to even get started. The first thread was so messed up. Everythings ok now. If I could only get the cams in right
