Clutch Questions was created by Summerheat
1976 KZ900 A4, stock

replacing all fiber and metal clutch plates, springs and installing a roller clutch push rod kit.

Questions:

1. What is my torque spec on bolts going through springs and holding on plate?

2. I have not been able to get the lil ball bearing out behind original clutch push rod. Do I need to get it out if just doing this rebuild?

Thanks for any and all input.

Not sure of the specs for the spring bolts. If you can get the ball out I would, if for no other reason than to inspect it. When you put your clutch plates back in, be sure to put the smooth side of the steel plates towards engine. If you put the flat side in, they can chew up the clutch basket fingers they slide on and cause it to hang up when using. Check the basket fingers to be sure they are smooth before putting your new clutch in. File any grooves you see or feel til they are smooth for better operation.

Looking at my factory shop manual on my 82 GPZ11000 B2 it mentions the spring bolts torque at 78 inch pounds.

You will need to tilt the bike to the side to get the ball bearing to roll out. To keep it from rolling freely on the floor, attach a magnet to the opening. The ball will then stick to the magnet allowing you to pull it out easily. :cheer:

Read somewhere about the tilting... but as you can see I am strapped in pretty good and missing a couple of appendages  so I will leave the clutch out until she is back together then tilt and inspect.

Thanks.

78 inch pounds. I guess it's as easy as 78/12 for 6.5 ft pounds and will do once I tilt.

Thanks for the input
