Hello guyz,

So Im staring my build project, and attemptng do it right (this time) by not making impulsive decisions but actual plans. So my ? is. What is the most reliable hp one can get out of a kz1000 motor? And also were is the power (high rpm I assume) (torque is always fun)

I am open to turbo etc...... but we all know more hp/torque less relaibility (normally)

I have a buddy who has street ridden a 220hp turbo 1260 every day for 12 years. Thats what it makes the way he rides it daily. Dont know what with the boost up. Thats not a lot in turbo terms when Hayabusas make 350, but its an old school single S&S Mr Turbo setup from a long time ago. To those who would call it a turd for ONLY 220 Id encourage you to jump on and try to run 9.50 @ 145 like he can, then tell me what you think for a 33 year old street bike

last time i dynoed my street bike it made 114 horsepower 79 ftlbs oftourque it is very street freindly i have ridden it to sturgis 3 times lots of weekends ripping around i have almost 16,000 miles on this rebuild and it always fires up first kick with the way it is geared it will do 135-140 mph easy and it cruises right along at 100+ with no effort it is a 10.25-1 wiseco 1075 kit .395 web cams big valve head lots of port work[by me] 29 smoothbores the frame and swingarm have been braced so the bike is very tight handling and just flat out works well. it has gone 10.79 at 123mph in the quarter with a lot tighter gearing than i normally run on the street i would recommend this kind of set-up any day good reliability and good power what more do you want out of a bike for the street that actually gets ridden more than 25 miles a year over to the starbucks or the bar.

everything i've been watching backs up what TB is saying....if it cant(needs work done) stay the way it came from japan ....well thought out small to medium builds can be a great and lasting street motor...a stock 900 or 1000 with carbs, ign, header, coils, gearing, and a little resonable chassis set up is gonna run fine....for about thirty years if maintained...i'd say that is pretty good.....a good rider on a stock gpz 550 can do a lot of dammage to most riders/bikes on the rode today.....so what if a bike can blast out 165 mph....where ya gonna get away with that everyday....where are you gonna spend 98% of your throttle time...riding around enjoying a classic ride at 30-75 mph...it is somewhat like the guys who are at the gym looking at their arms in the mirror and then checking out the other guys arms....marilyn manson can pull more wool than those boys any day of the week and he can't even make a muscle...my 2 cents...peacetimebomb33 wrote:

My own 76 1105 motor has been going for 33 years so far and still hauls. I dont have any dyno numbers but Id guess around 100 at the wheel with a SBM head & cams, 29 smoothbores, Dyna ignition and a Kerker pipe. Will it run with the big new dogs, nope but it runs plenty good for me. I dont fit on the modern roadracer street bikes at 65 with a bad back so it will have to do.

Tire bomb, I love it! That is the exact same thing I am doing with my 80 ltd using JE pistons instead and was curious to know about the hp and reliability as well. A hundred or more horsepower is great at the rear wheel I think.
As you know I decided to wait on that zx 14. I pay my house off in June and I have my old 79 ltd that I am ashamed to say is in the corner all naked and half stripped. I am going to put the same amount of money in to her motor as you did with your motor. Ceramic bearings, balanced crank indexed trued welded shaved backcut trans, powdercoating frame and even going to put custom perches on her that cost around a grand. All of the stainless engine kit bolts and even a clear clutch cover. Was thinking too if I could update the gauges as long as they could fit in to the stock bullets as that is what is an integral part of the cosmetic appearance of this bike. I am quite sure that it will be around or upwards of 15k on that rebuild. So I am glad I didn't buy that bike if for that one reason even though the zx woulda been a hella ride. I have had my 79 since the 80's. Twould be a crime if I just let her go to waste. Then next year once my house is paid for I can have three bikes.

Did you contact that dude that has the kaw for 3gs on craigslist. You remember the one with the crushed velvet seat? lol That bike I would bet money for the money was more of a bike than the one you wanted to buy from our favorite guy at his shop that we can't mention on this sight because he doesn't support kzr. Trust me don't feel bad by not getting that bike. Whoever bought it will have buyer's remorse guaranteed.

Tire Bomb, I just found out that the cam grind is actually going to be around .401 something like that Supposed to have low, mid AND high torque all around. I am so jonesing for a ride right now. Can't wait to break it in. Until then I guess I will just have to enjoy other peoples bikes. I get to go and ride my friends bike when I get to PR this week coming up.:cheer:
