Did you check the cam lob to head clearance?
Even a so called drop in cam may still hit the head
some times. Especially at low RPM.

VERY good point - I can't believe I forgot about that. I had a "clearanced" cam cover that was hitting my cams before. The head also needs proper clearance. It's probably worth checking...
would i have noticed this when i was assembling
top end.?..i timed the cams and spun everything around a few times and evrything was 100%...my h-cover is clearanced also....plus the guy who did my headwork and shimmed motor is pretty much on his game, he would have seen something i might miss....when carbs come back, if it still isnt right, i m gonna revisit under h cover...i leaning towards carbs.....thanks guys

What are current plug readings from lowest sustainable rpm?
Should know this for later comparison after carb rebuild.
Has spark quality at kickover been visually examined?
Forgive me for still harboring suspicion of inadequate voltage reaching coils at idle rpm.
Good Luck!
carbs need done anyway so when they come back, this will be on the list if it still does it....
gonna take a little hiatus on bike work till they come back....still have plenty of time till riding season....thanks...

So much for that idea.
How about this one. Did you instal a welded clutch basket. They will make
low RPM noise/vibration.

...iirc when i started motor after build, i had pilots i put in 1 size up from the 20 s and it sounded a lot better around the rpm range where i m having trouble, but it had a huge bog.....i got to email guy who was second set of hands and see if he remembers the same i do......keith

Keith, what carbs are you running? I've a set of 36 "slingshots" on an old GS, and are silent, but have encountered Keihen "roller" flatslides on FZ's which clattered furiously.G
stock vm26ss.....

Why would a nice tight welded basket make more noise than a stock basket?
