Top end question was created by rdgrnr
Ok,
I am in the middle of taking the head off for a gasket replacement (in-frame), and I am wondering if anyone has a trick for separating the head from the jugs. It doesn't look like the heads/jugs will come off as a single unit while the engine is in-frame. The jug gasket is free, but the head doesn't want to come loose from the jugs...
Any suggestions?

A few tap's from a rubber mallet around the edges should do the trick. There are also "Pry" points, to seperate the head and the fugs, but be careful when prying, hope this has helped.

tripple check to make sure u have ALL of the bolts out.
U can use the end of a short length of 2x4 wood, say about 6" long. place the wood on the head and hit upwards with a hammer on the wood.
Hope this helps.

I did the tapping with a mallet, and the jugs came with the head. Anyone with a pic of the pry points. I already snapped a fin near the #4 intake:angry:

Also, anyone have a OEM manual? I have a Haynes, but it's not as comprehensive and the pics suck...

I just took mine off my 650 and there are two bolts in the timing chain tunnel. Did you get those. They are on either end of the tunnel (i.e. front and back). Let me know if you need a pic.

..since I broke loose the jug/case gasket, it looks like the jugs need to come off as well...any advice before I proceed?
I'm thinking maybe slow down a bit til I get an OE manual..anyone have one on file?
Thanks everyone for the input:)
