I just bought another 79 LTD1000 with an old Yosh pipe on it too. I measured from the frame tube and it seems to hang down the same as the V&H. I will be pulling it off as it passes under the oil filter PITA. My communication is not clear, the rear shocks are 12" on the bike. They were exactly 1" shorter than the stock shocks side by side on the floor. I may try the preload up a notch, although I got the bike handling best ever after tweeking for a couple years.

79 KZ1000 LTD B3, 1075 kit, BS34 carbs, high velocity ported heads, K410 cams, V&H pipe w/custom baffle

Exit, Should have added, Mines an A-1, thus 18/19" wheels and 13.5" shocks and pre-loaded progressive springs at stock height. at 160 lbs I don't compress it much, and an avid coward seldom keep leaning after pegs start to fold up.G;)
