Do you race your bike? If not, I'd say just get the plates. Use sandpaper to break the glaze on the steel plates. I did this, didn't replace my springs, and my clutch hasn't slipped once since then, even after the rebuild with the ported head.

When I changed mine, 3 years ago, I changed all the plates and got new springs. Still working great today.
Remember, don't use any Low Friction engine oils or Low Friction additives or you will have slippage on your new plates.
Best of success.

if you have accsess to a bead blaster blast your steel plates as long as they are not warped when you blast them it give a bit more surface area for the oil to adhere to if your fiber plates measure in spec. and they have no pieces missing and look alright you should be able to keep using them. the stock springs should be good if they measure in spec and are square.i use used plates in my dragbikes and hillcimber and the only time i've ever burnt a clutch was because of improper adjustment or thru a bad experiment with oil brands and type. if i hurt a clutch it's because i've broken plates.

Springs are cheap, put in new ones if you do a clutch job. The springs on mine went south at about 50k miles.

The Barrnett is a good clutch, stiff as hell, and when you release it you damn well better be ready to go, no slip or half clutch .
my two cents, the stock is just fine for street riding

Weak springs will allow plates to slip BUT if you get new springs, even standard springs are stiffer then the original OEM springs in most cases. Never buy HEAVY DUTY springs as these will give your clutch a super-heavy feel.

Nope.. I'm with WG. Heavy duty springs are not needed. (Maybe a track bike) Don't throw away your old springs. You might want them back. I often think of putting a hydraulic on them. Hands ain't what they used to be but neither is $$$$....

quader98, I installed that same Roller Clutch Push Rod Kit from Z1 last winter.
By the time I rode the bike this spring I had long forgotten the original feel.
Certainly didn't make anything worse or quirky.
Best of success.
