Wow, 100+ replies now.

I've read every post here front to back, and there really isn't much that I can contribute that hasn't already been said.

I am however still puzzled by one thing in particular. What's with the obsession with the 650 motor?

I'm pretty open minded, and I can understand that for nostalgic, or inherited reasons you might want to restore one. But why make one into a practically non-streetable, b low itself apart, slower that just about everything out there money pit?

Boredom? ... I know you've said for some reasons why, but... Why not just put one of thousands of superior motors in there and just plain have a better bike?

You could just run without a tach, and tell everyone it pulls 15k.

Cheers.

I would like to think Mr. Lorcan knows quite a bit about the limitations of these engines, and i thanked him for his input by saying "well said" if you take offense in that, then you must have issues that need attention..By the way, who , or what is a knig? - Remember to keep it on topic, :)

piston speeds in these first kawi fours bikes was not "the" goal in itself ...rather a usable curve for real world riding and some steady building power was on deck then....the japanese were well aware of rpm's and had ran small cc four stroke gp engines a decade before kz's that reached rpm's not to be soon seen again on a production unit.... if they had intended for a 12000 rpm street kz then one would have been built ...and no offense to the hero's that achieve giant numbers with these old engines....but a 5000 $ c-list bike with some suspension mods and minor engine work will walk on those bikes and be able to run to the store with a passenger or cruise the highways on pump gas....3500 on a good day on e-bat will pay off quicker than a catalog motor and shipped out work..........knock knock

I agree/ yet disagree, i say one could buy an ebay special for $1000 - 1500, and give a proper spanking to the above mentioned, yet retain most of its reliability due to being close to bone stock.. There are a zx10, and a gs 1100 on there now that could be had for around the cost of a good port ,polish and valve job..:)

What about the turbo kitted 1400cc big blocks? Are they OK to build because Kawi did not "intend" to build them. Do you post irrational BS on threads about those power plants?

It seems that some folks don't have to much imagination.

Lorcan; running without boost, will the ignition hold till 11,000? Are the valve springs of today any better than those of the mid 80's? Do you think 100 streetable hp can be accomplished on a 650/750 without a turbo?

I certainly do not want to have to pull the head more than once a year (especially for a dropped valve) so if valve springs are a hard limit, I will accept that and smile. ;)

I wish you would accept something.. The 2 above posts are hard fact you just dont want to accept. build it,rev it, and someone will come along with something they have $1000 - 3500 invested in and spank you proper. Mr.Lorcan has TONS of $$$ and research in his bike. You will never be him.. As far as turbo 1400 cc motors, ive seen them put out nearly 400 hp - big difference between your lil 650 and one of those car tire bikes. :silly:
