Supposed to be the crankshaft position where the camchain has maximum slack on the rear side, which allows the tensioner to have the most effect.

With point cover removed, align the advancer's T mark (for cyl 1/4) with the permanent timing mark on the case. This alignment will place the pistons in cyl 1/4 at TDC (top dead center).

A word of caution -- the camchain tensioner's lock nut and adjustment screw should not be tightened with Godzilla force, as these bolts have been known to snap. "Snug" is plenty good enough here.

The camchain tensioner adjustment may be made as frequently as desired.
