- TWO WEEKS!!!(Money Pit the movie)
Guess what? my KZ passed state inspection!!Yeah:silly: All I need now is registration and I'm GTG! Anyway before I start commuting I still need to address a few things like a major post-ride leak from the front side #1 cam plug, and also I would like to check and adjust valve clearance and cam chain tension. I need gaskets and plugs, is there any where I can get them without paying out the wazoo? I checked with Babbitt"s but they are pretty steep, any suggestions? One more thing, is there anything else I shoul do while I have it down?
ThanksB)

I have made cover gaskets from the best gasket material they sell at Pep Boys. Works very well, I wasn't up for paying the upside of $20 for valve cover gaskets.
Gota agree for gaskets. Take your part put it on a scanner, large parts may take two scans. Make a template, trace on gasket material, cut it out and ya got a gasket for a couple of $.

Cutting a perfect duplicate of this gasket from scratch seems like a rather daunting task (at least to me), even if further minimizing expenses by using a large cereal box or other free substance as gasket material.

I buy one and use it for a template. I keep that one for making new ones.

When I was a kid and had to go through the Briggs engine on my go-kart I used the big side of a potato chip box and cut a gasket from it for the side cover. It worked pretty good. That's how to get a cheap gasket!
That reminds me... don't buy Athena gaskets......

A small dab of silicone sealer may be applied to the rubber end caps to prevent leakage through those areas. Be careful not to apply so much sealer that an excess squeezes out underneath the valve cover during reassembly. This is to avoid getting silicone where it's not supposed to be, such as inside an oil passage.
This would also be a convenient opportunity to check the valve clearances.
Good Luck!

... service interval is 2k....
Just to confirm, the FSM maintenance schedule specifies 4,000 miles or 6,000 km for checking valve clearances.
Good Luck!
