Cam Idler Sprocket Question
28 Sep 2008 04:08
Can someone tell me if it is normal for the outer part of the cam idler sprocket to slide side to side on the inner part of the sprocket? It slides smoothly with a light friction fit. There is no galling on any part. The sprocket looks practically new with no slop on the center shaft. My fear is the center part of the sprocket can shift to one side or the other and ride against the cylinder head. Is this normal or do I need to replace it? Thanks.

Hmmmm...don't THINK it's supposed to slide around like that.
What bike is this from?
(Put the model and year into your signature,ok)
Are there needle-bearings in the center section of that gear?
Take a pic of the front, and post it.

When I had my top end off mine where like that too. I'm sure that's normal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That's how they are,on the 650's?
I wouldn't have thought that.
I suppose with oil in there, there wouldn't be friction though.
Different than mine,that's for sure.

That absolutely does not look good. You should get the solid aftermarket one.

Ape Jay, the idler gear your showing is for the KZ900 & 1000 series... Liska, yeah baby...
Are they the same for the KZ650?
I don't think so due to OEM part number differences... And I don't see where the KZ650 models are shown on your web site...
Then again, WTF do I know....
