I had to one time, use a body dent-puller to get mine off.
Have you tried heating it?
There should be a few posts on this subject...take a look, bud.
And yes,the rear axle should be the same thread size.

Don't try "tapping" it out with the rear axle, screw the axle in there as tight as you can get it, then give it a good solid whack with a 2 lb hammer, should pop right off.
The rotors on most, if not all, KZ's are a taper fit, break the taper and they fall right off.
Be real careful if you decide to try heat, the magnets are glued on the rotor and heat will loosen the glue, and if you get the magnets to hot, they won't be magnets

Look at ebay auction 330267004408. It is a simple homemade tool for removing a rotor. I made one and it works like a dream. However, make the board 3 ft long so you can brace it on the ground. It would help to have someone else hold the tool while you torque the rotor bolt. DON'T POUND ON THE ROTOR. It can lose it's magnetism that way....chris3

That's absolutely correct, do not pound or pry on the rotor. When you use the rear axle and smack it, the force is going on the end of the crank, not the rotor.
I don't think I have ever done this to a 900/1000/1100, just done it to several 650/750 fours and twins.

You can also find a big ball bearing and stick it in the hole to use as a spacer. If you do this make sure you find the biggest ball that will fit in the hole so you don't screw up the threads on the crank.
