So the ghasket connecting the crank case to the fins has an irritating leak.

A small amount of oil leaks out and ruins the polsh job i did on the bike every time I ride.

Will ghasket silicone work? What do you guys reccomed?

I am assuming that JB Weld is not the answer.

I assume you mean the cylinder base gasket between the bottom of the cylinder and the crankcase. On mine, it came from the factory with a very strong sealer adhesive probably similar to 3-bond. You will have to tear the engine all the way down to the pistons to replace that gasket and seal it.

I have a small oil leak... well more of a seep really ..at the base gasket just under the cam chain tensioner at the back of the block. Been like that for years. I figure it's not worth the bother of tearing it down for that. I just wipe it with a rag every time I ride and live with it. The black engine paint does help conceal it though ;)

Perhaps you could try re torquing bolts although that did'nt work for me.

It may or may not work, but on a KZ650 once I had a leak at the base gasket. Of course it's not the base gasket on a KZ650 but one of the 400 rubber orings. I cleaned the area real good then smeared clear silicon sealer over the area. Kind of ugly and not a real mechanics fix, but it worked for several years. Eventually the clear turned to yellow and the engine needed work that involved removing the cylinder and I fixed it right. I won't disassemble that far for an oil leak.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Ron

I am going to try the silicone route.

I have already spent a ton of money on the bike, i could have just about purchase a 08 GSX-R 750 by now if I add in the shop work , oil filters, ect .... and sooty plugs before I knew I could cleen them and reuse them.....man i have learned a lot from this site.

Anways I am going to clean and smear some silicone on it and wait 24hrs before i ride it and see if it stops the seep.

I plan on:

Painting the bike
Coil Mod
new chain
front and rear sprocket
ss bolt set
new rear spoked rim for B model
stem taper bearings

I have:
New brakes
shims
cam chain
euro racing seat
flasher relays
new turn signal lenses
clubman bars
Brake lever
Tach cable
rear tire

So a little silicone maybe the fix for now.

When I finish off the final bits I am going to post some pics and get rid of that bootylicious babe in my avitar, but until then she is going to keep you guys company until the spring. At least she is sporting Kawaski green.B)

Thanks for the great tip Ron
Seems to be working for me on the slight seep I was getting at the base gasket under the cam chain tensioner.
:) :) :)
I used a thin smear of clear silicone so it is practically unnoticeable. Let it cure for a week while I was away.

The silicone worked for me at stopping the oil leak as well.

Now I have a problem with the cam chain tensioner. I ordered one from Ape so it is a never ending story with the bike.

Boy does it make some horrific sounds now.

I will be trying to fix the problem before the season ends here in about 5 weeks or so.

Clear silicone, let it cure, no more leak and no reason to tear the engine down.
