#4 Exaust stud cracked out... was created by BoZ650
....Ive heard a coulple of times that JB weld could be used in this situation and was wondering about the prepwork needed to JB weld the stud into the head. Also can I just use my mig welder to weld it or is the head not weldable? My friend just bought this 650 and he is on a budget so Im trying to save him some coin!Any feedback is appreciated! Thanks

prolly best to get a local welder that can tig it up.shouldn't cost to much to get done.don't think i would try the jb weld there.weld it up and redrill and tap and you wont have to worry about it.my.02

I can tell you from experience that JB Weld will not withstand the heat that you'll get in that area. It gets VERY hot down there. As Banshee suggested, have it welded.

If threads inside head are stripped, would it be feasible to re-tap for the next larger size stud? Or possibly repair with heli-coil (ala cam bolt hole repair)?

I think a heli-coil should be OK, you may need to stack a pair of them in there.

The hole is actually missing the bottom portion of material,so I doubt even going larger would be enough. So My brother welds for a living, unlike me who only has a standard mig welder and limited patience with it.Ill have him take a look at it and see If I can trailer the bike to his work and have him do it right.I had my friend order a bunch of stuff from Z1 ent.So we have a couple days to play with it. There is never a easy way out is there? Thanks Guys!

No Plummen the PO forgot to disclose this and it is partially my fault for not catching it.But even so My friend gave himm $500 for it and its a 76 KZ650C model with the front and rear disc brakes and mag wheelswhich I guess is pretty rare.It also has a wierd 4 into 1 header that exits on the left that I thought was interesting? But weve been looking for 6 months locally and this is the first one we could find. These old bikes are getting hard to find now that Im looking for them.I tripped over my 1st couple! Thanks
