Early 79 LTD1000 had the old small pin crank motors and 122 pin cam chains. The factory was trying to use up the old parts.
However, the heads are the same. Both pollution port heads.
I believe this to be correct as you will find two sets of schmatics for 1979. They also did a carb change mid year it looks like. One set had the sensor diaphram next to the acc pump and one did not. Maybe one was for CA?
