Just checked all my valve clearances, and they are as follows. All are within spec except Cyl 4...

(1E)....(2E)....(3E)....(4E)
.003.....006.....006.....002 DOESNT FIT

(1I)....(2I)....(3I)....(4I)
.006.....006.....005.....012

Now, I know cylinder 4 is out of spec, but the ticking is coming from the left side. Kind of sounds like 2E (2 exhaust) is tapping the piston, but it's not.

Any ideas?
Bike is also a PITA to start cold.

Quite possibly an exhaust leak, Check and or replace exhaust gaskets, their pretty inexpensive.

OHH LOL. Sometimes I get ahead of myself..

Well, as I said, the bike won't freakin start. I tried and tried and tried, and no luck. So, I checked the things a motor needs to run..spark, air, compression, and fuel. I have spark, air, and compression, can we guess what's wrong?

Yup, I have a carb issue. And it's my fault ...I'm not using the gas tank because it's getting cleaned right now and I'm also waiting on a petcock...so I have a tube hooked up to the carbs and I'm just feeding gas into that. Well, me being the bright one, I never put a inline fuel filter on for any of this. Oops. Yeah, I drained the bowls on all 4 carbs, and SO MUCH gunk and crud came out, definately clogging the passage ways. I got one carb blown out this morning and it was for sure clogged, I'm going to get the rest done tonight when I get home from work.

Personally,
I prefer to think of things as learning experiences. That is until I do the same thing again, when i should have known better. That's reffered to as experience reinforcement!!:woohoo: Otherwise I just refer to 'stuff' as testing the rules of physics.:cheer: Haven't broken any of those physics rules yet. Have broken other stuff though....

LOL @ this thread.

But back on topic, I have some more questions.

So, I FINALLY got the bike started, after about 2 1/2 hours of trying. Yes, I know, if it doesn't start after that long, there is somethign wrong. But, I knew it would eventually start and I wanted it to run so I could HEAR how it was running and *try* to diagnose the problem...that being said, here are my symptoms...:

--Bike is EXTREMELY hard to start, even when WARM.
--Will ONLY start with choke ON and FULL throttle, but when it starts, I have to turn the choke OFF other wise it won't stay running. I can hear how rich it's running, its crazy.
--When running, I have to keep it at 1/4 throttle or more, otherwise it will just die
--Won't start with electric start for some reason, not sure why. I can only get it to start by kicking it.
--I tip the bike over each way to drain the carb bowls and then I give it a good kick, it will usually fire up or at least sputter.
