I've been in this situation also. redoing a head for a cb900 and didn't have a valve spring compressor, so i made one.
1 C-clamp
1 3/4" CPVC coupling (won't marr or scrape the bucket bore)
1 3/4" washer
I know it looks primitive and crude but it worked like a charm for me.
If you decide to go this way, get the correct size CPVC coupling to match your bucket bore.
