Well I'm here to tell you 1979 KZ 1000's are MKll's. If you don't believe me go to the Gallery and look up the pic of mine...1979 & 1980's are MKll's. The US models had the smog ports, nowhere else . I have Canadian model non smog port rocker cover for sale if you'd like one.

LTD"s had silver non painted motors, MKll's and 80 fuelies had black motors.

The guy selling should part out justb the motor to a drag racer and get 1500$ at least. A huge big bore, a drag racing pipe, magneto and carbs put that in a proper chassis add an air shifter and boom away we go!!

its allready sitting in my garage, took it to the carwash today and scrubbed it up.now i get to take it apart and start fixing things on it and rubbing on a lot of aluminum!i was going to yank the motor out to put in my Z1,but its too nice of a bike to part out so im going to go through it from one end to the other and make it a really nice saturday night special!tried screwing with a guy on a gsxr suzuki on my way back from carwash i left him by about three bike lengths leaving stoplight then he backed down, good thing because that back tire really sucks! might see if i can find 18"rear mag wheel for now,i dont like mags but i dont have time to chase down hubs, spokes etc i can allways add wirewheels later!goodluck, happy wrenching!

Replied by 79MKII on topic MKII Crank Clarification
I think what is being said here is that for the LTD model, only the 1980 had the MKII crank. Of course the 79 A model had the MKII crank, it is the only true MKII ever made. Even the 80 A model was not a MKII, even though it was nearly identical. Regarding the LTD motors, I always assumed the 79 changed right along with the A models, but this isn't the first time I have heard that they used the older style cranks. All 79 LTD's looked the same though, with smog valve covers, smog head, finned dyno and ingition covers, etc... I hope this clears things up.

Now, back to the original post...if the motor is done right, it is worth well over $500-$800 alone. Probably not a good choice for a restoration, but a great choice for a hot rod. Any running 1000 goes for at least $1000 around here. Good luck and keep us posted.

The Kaw List:
Current: 79 KZ1000 A3 MKII, 78 KZ1000 A2, 78 KZ1000 Z1-R, 78 KZ650 SR, 80 KE175
Former: 03 KLX400SR, 99 ZRX1000, 82 KZ750 LTD, 80 KZ1000 A4 MKII, 80 KZ1000 LTD, 78 KZ1000 A2, 74 H-2 750 Triple, 78 KL250
