Well, the '79 LTD was sold with the 'old' style 1000 motor and they were assembled from left over engines. The new MKII motor was reserved for the A3 model. Check with Jeff Saunders if you don't believe me. By the advent of the 1980 models, all 1000's were equipped with the MKII motor.

If you buy it. Take the mag off and put a Dyna S on it so it will start. Then put an ad over on dragbike.com and sell the mag to a funnybike racer.

Don't know what you've seen, but the info I have came from Kawasaki USA. :) Stranger things have happened with factory bikes.

i have yet to see a 79 kaw kz or ltd that didnt have smog motor head the cranks you might have me on the 79 ltd but i know the 79 kz and all the 80s ive ever torn apart had the beefier crankshaft i have only broken one kawasaki small pin crank but that was on a really healthy turbo bike with a stock unbraced maincap,so unless you are doing something really insane i personally dont see the need for a big pin crank!goodluck, happy wrenching! ;)

$500 to $800 seems like a great price....for a nice used scooter :P . I've never seen a descent running street bike for $800. It would have to have significant issues or be quite "junky" looking from my point of view to be a $500-$800 bike. Those Old High Mileage KZ Police Bikes seem to sell around or over 2000 easy.

This bike is more for a target audience - performance enthusiasts to be more exact, and I think generally the people in these forums favor restoration over performance mods. Asking a dedicated drag bike forum may help you get more perspective as far as value.

I wouldn't get this bike for long trips or for a daily driver that's for sure. This is a bike I would take out once in a while to smoke those GSXR and R1 guys (provided that it's safe and legal to so of course )

I think $1500-$2000 does seem more reasonable if the bike is relatively clean, runs good, and all mods were profesionally done. Can anyone post some pics of this bike for sale?

im in the process of wheeling and dealing with him on it right now i should know something in a couple of days!if i get it i will probably tear down the motor and go through it all and detail it to stick in my 75 Z1 project it definately wont be a daily driver but it will be a low slung detailed to the gnats ass hotrod!i like bikes that retain the origional theme of of the Z1 but without all the extra stuff ya dont need, with a lot of shiny stuff and big healthy motors you cant put a hurting on a zx-11 on the interstate with one ,but i sure can give them a workout on a short sprint! goodluck, happy wrenching!
