I know the GS1000 head firts KZ with sprocket change and suspect it's a bolt on for 'J'.
I'm wondering about the jugs and pistons.
Will GS1100 jugs and pistons fit a 'J' case?

Jay???

What about GS1100 pistons pin center to top (not crown), is this same as 'J'? I ask because of oportunity to pick up a GS1100 basket case for $100.

This is a GS1100G head. The shaft drive bikes stuck with the 8 valve config...

Correct. Bore centers are not the same, stud pattern is not the same. WShy would you want to do this when a GPZ head is a bolt on.

Jay et-al,
AFAIK
GS1000 head fits KZ with cam sprocket mod.
'J' head fits KZ with cam sprocket mod.
Here's what I don't know...
This suggests that GS1000 head might fit 'J' with no mod. 'J' has bigger stock valves so why bother except the GS head looks more like the earlier KZ head than the 'J' head and might be desireable for it's 'style'.

So the GS1100 8 valve head used on the shaft drive model is totally different than the GS1000 8 valve head? Different centers and bolt pattern? This is what I wanted to know. Of course if it was the same, my next question was 'would the block fit'. No, this isn't for the GPz. I've got an old 'J' motor off a high miles police bike that I'm messing around with. Have been offered a GS1100G in buckets but it's gonna cost me a days time and $100 to get it.

Suzuki...GS=8valve head GSX=16valve head

I have seen GS1000 heads on KZ/Z bikes for sure. The valves are larger. Not sure about the GS1100 head... can't recall.

what are the advantages to the gs1000 head other than the valves, are the ports any better out of the box?i know the j-motor and gpz heads have better valves and ports than a z head, but i just dont like the looks of them compared to the old style heads kinda hard headed that way,ill spend a bunch of money to make something tha looks good work as good as something else does stock!

The GS head has bigger valves than KZ but smaller than J.
I don't know anything about flow differences.

The GS heads seem to be a lot less expensive than the 'J' or GPz 8 valve heads which might be an indicator...

I managed to find valve part numbers and they are the same for the 8 valve GS1100 and GS1000 heads.

Here is a photo of 1983 GS1100G:

Note the old KZ style 8 valve head.

Style wise I like it but doubt that in stock form it's gonna be an improvement over the stock 'J' head.

GS1100 pistons are same diameter and same wristpin as 8 valve GPz1100. Wonder if pin center is such that they might be used with bored 998CC 'J' block?

I would like to see a pic of a running gs1100/gs1000 headed kz,I have been to many drag races and have never seen this setup.not saying it couldn't be done but why bother ?,I would think the valve angles would be different, the bore spacing would be different,it would take a LOT of work for a little gain.
I do know that the 38mm intake valves that come stock in the suzuki are about .060 longer than a J model kz's,I have 8 new ones that I am planing on using on J model heads. also the buckets are bigger diam. and are the way to go when a kz,s bucket bore is trashed.
