best sounding exhaust was created by kboom36
Hi, years ago I can remember hearing a KZ coming long before seeing it. I dont know what kind of headers were around then but I want that old sound for my bike. What header (exhaust) would you suggest has the best sound, I dont want it to sound like a Harley lol just an old super bike.I have a 1982 KZ1000.

The only decent sounding pipe still in production
for a KZ1000 is the Jardine.Macs have an all metal
baffle, sound tinny.Vance and Hines have a bifurication plate seperating the collector chamber, they have a high
pitch more annoying tone.Bassani,Bub and Racer ones
had the best sound.

This may sound goofy but I ran a Kerker on KZ650s for well over 200,000 miles and thought they were pretty decent, but then I started up my other 650 which only has 1800 miles on it with the stock exhaust and rode it and just fell in love with the stock system, so I swapped stock back onto my everyday KZ650 and just have a smile ear to ear while riding. Also years ago I ran a Kerker on the KZ1000A3 for like 50 miles and that was enough of that, back stock there too.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

This is true. The Mac is what I use since it's a name I've had a long relationship with but I've modified it heavily to get where I want.

Don't be afraid to make it your own!

RonKZ650,
Doesn't sound goofy to me. I love the sound of my stock pipes too. Ed

I'm so torn between going back to stock or keeping my Kerker on. Stock pipes would really give my bike that off the show room floor look but I just can't give up that Kerker sound!!

Kerker # 1 IF you want the sound and can't find a Yo$hi.
I have two Kerkers, but run a stock Kawasaki LTD system on my Z1. Why?? because I don't want to have to YELL when I talk to a riding buddy. And Johnny Law doesn't hear me coming;)
But on the KZ project ... I'll be using the Kerker, sound, looks and performance. Old school !!

1974 900 Z1 modified to look like a LTD , some engine mods. But I still have all the original parts.

I still think the Kerkers are too darn loud.
Other pipes were quieter and made just as much
if not more power.
