Buzzy SR 650, what to look for? was created by N0NB
I've now had a chance to road ride two other 650s besides my SR this year. Compared to mine, both of those have been exceptionally smooth with no clouding of the mirrors or buzz through the handgrips, footrests or seat of which my SR has an abundance.
The buzz is directly tied to engine RPM and is the same in any gear at any road speed and is repeatable by RPM. Later this summer I plan to park it for a while and do a few things to it, especially a valve tappet clearance adjustment.
I'm not optimistic that doing a clearance adjustment will make any difference and that it may well be an imbalanced crank. Of course I have no way of knowing unless the whole engine were pulled apart and each rotating part were balanced.
Another culprit that comes to mind would be the flywheel/alternator.
This post is mostly a mind ramble...

Sync'd in late summer '04. At the time I noticed no change in the buzz intensity before or after the sync.
I'm guessing this one simply wasn't quite right from the factory.

I am sorry to say but you sound like you have a problem. Mine buzzes too but I can still see in the mirrors, big difference from my 1000 that turns lines in the street into fences when I look in the mirror. However its not my 1000's fault and I can't say z1, but those mirrors are flimsy. The stocks are strong but the part behind the mirror is soft. Sorry Nate, just had to get that off my mind.

Check your sprocket ratios against the other bikes.
Changing the ratio might move the vibration out of the obnoxious range.

Try tightening all the motor mounts.Make
sure the gas tank rubber mounts are still
soft and in the correct place.Take a com-
pression check and make sure all cylinders
are even.

Nate:
My 82 KZ650 CSR develops a simple harmonic vibraton between 4300 to 4900 RPM. My bike has a 13 tooth front sprocket and 33 tooth rear. So the vibration is between 53 and 59 MPH in 5th gear. It is in sync with the tach, and can easily be felt when in neutral or any gear. It is not bad enough to blur the mirrors. I believe that nothing is wrong, but simply a characteristic of these 4 cylinder engines. I could be wrong.
Now I do hear some buzzing sounds occasionally coming from the baffles in the mufflers but have not established any pattern to it. It is a "sound", whereas the first paragraph describes a "feel".
I am curious if anyone else has this same phenoninon?

I get a severe buzz from my gas cap lock at speeds upward of 60-65. My left mirror is good to about 60 then gets fuzzy. My right mirror is fuzzy all the way to 80 then gets clear as can be.

they are harmonic dampners, they go in the ends of the bars. I think its the same thing used in anti vibration boring bars

BSKZ650, don't mean to hijack this thread but do you have a web site for these guys? Sounds neat and from the input above they actually seem to work... cool. Thanks.
