Base Gasket Removal

Ok you pros out there, how do I remove the old base gasket, cylinder base gaskets, with the engine still in the frame and without dropping anything in the cases? I wire wheels the crap of the bottom of the cylinders already, but I dont think, unless I clog the holes before I wire wheel the cases side, but give me your suggestions!

stuff holes full of rags,soak gasket with acetone and start scraping;)

I do this often.

I buy a product from NAPA called ROLOC.
It is like a scotch-brite pad on a 2" arbor.
It removes all gasket residue without harming the case.
Roloc is a brand name, and they also make sanding discs on arbors, make sure you get the brown pads that look like scotchbrite

WARNING: Wire wheels WILL remove and/or scratch the case material, making them leak.

I jist looked at the box, and they are by Scotchbrite

They are available with sticky back or with the twist arbor.
Don't bother with the sticky back, they think they are flying saucers, and escape often.

Thanks guys But I like Patton's idea better, never heard of it. Sorry Florida but I don't feel like it for dust or dirt around that area right now, and my nose, have a slight cold. And acetone sounds like another good idea Wireman. Thanks guys! I thought people stay away from my post seeing how long they take to give me an answer. Just came in from working on 650 clutch again, I let my girlfriend learn how to ride it so its getting a fair share of abuse!

Acetone may give the old sinuses a workout.

I don't have any paint on my engine (thank God for that). I am going to go looking for it now. Where to start? Any auto store?

Yes, get high temp enamel from the auto parts store. The Very High Temp paint is only needed for exhaust

It will also cause your cam chain, rods, and cylinder studs, to start rusting almost immediately. I tried it once
