what type of sealents do you other kz'ers use on your engine gaskets?
i'm putting my block/head back on as well as my oilpan and clutch/stator cover on and i'm cusrious as to what works, i don't need my bike marking its territory like a harly does. :side:

You don't need any sealer on a paper gasket. I use Yamabond #4 on the case halves and rubber bits like the cam end plugs. Nothing on paper.

I'm with Ron.No sealer on paper gaskets.silicone around cyl studs(as per manual, like permatex)and case 1/2's and some bolts (again as per manual, around bolt heads of bolts holes that lead to oil)my 2 cents.Good luck

I just use typical paper gasekets for the block and head. For the side cover I used RVT.

I use Permatex Ultra Black rtv gasket maker, used in place of cork and paper gaskets on lots of newer cars and trucks. I reuse the head gasket by painting it with "gold" or "silver" rattle can paint. Spray it on both sides of gasket and bolt it together without waiting for it to dry.(be sure to clean head surface and top of jug with brake cleaner first) Old racer at the track told me that it's the metal in the paint that makes it work, I done it on a lot of high compression car engines, tried it this spring on my 10.25 to 1 1105, so far so good.

On the cars they were the steel shim and the thicker fiber with the metal compression rings around the cyl. bores (worked on both). The one on my bike is the fiber type.

If you've already put RTV on it, I don't think you can get it clean enough to reuse. The surfaces must be cleaned of all oils (hence the brake cleaner) or the combustion gas will burn through and along any oil trail. Walla, burned and leaking head gasket. Get the metal compression part of the gasket clean (spotless) as
that's what seals the combustion gases in, if the rest of it leaks, it's "just" an oil leak, may want to put some RTV around the oil passages, I didn't paint or RTV around the oil passages on mine and have no leaks yet, but have only been riding for a couple of months with the painted gasket. Past experiance says if it holds on the first run you've got it licked. Although I've had weeping oil after a year or so, even with new gaskets.
