I would not recomend paint thinner.I just went through a nightmere with that stuff. Many inexpensive thinners have oils in them that will prevent some paints from sticking properly .I just had to reblast my whole engine and repaint because of this. Please use bake cleaner or acetone .Good luck.Mark.

You don't need any sealer on a paper gasket. I use Yamabond #4 on the case halves and rubber bits like the cam end plugs. Nothing on paper.

I agree with that, except I use 3Bond 1107b (it's only avliable from Suzuki)

Compared to 1104 & 1211, it's as messy as ink, it skins over quickly and it's a bitch to clean off a case. But it's the strongest sealer 3 Bond makes and also stands up to higher temp and a greater amount of petrolium products

To seal cases, I like Hondabond HT... it is a Threebond product and sets up much firmer than than Yamahabond #4. I disagree a tad with some of the folks who don't use gasket sealer on case cover gaskets. I have found that MOST of the aftermarket gaskets (the ones my shop has access to), like Versah have differing paper thickness and if you have gasket mating surfaces that are a tad uneven, a sealer is necessary to avoid some oil dripping. I use NAPA gasket sealer in both spray and bottle form. It is purple glop that cleans up easily and skins quickly and will hold a gasket in place nicely. I have rebuilt engines without using sealer and all was fine but about 1 in 5 need this goop or they seem like they will dribble oil from half the case cover gaskets. I noticed that some mating surfaces have swirl marks from the factory; perhaps that is what causes the leaking... perhaps the gasket paper is a shade to thin. I dunno...

Question, when a silicone type sealer is used do you wait for it to set up before assembly? I have heard that if assembled when wet it will glob off into the engine and possibly plug oilways?

Copper coat is for copper gaskets. Are you saying that you like it on others as well ?

Our local dragster builder swears by this stuff - Gasgacinch

It's advertised to assure proper sealing of all gaskets used in an intake manifold installation. Also effective on water pump, oil pan and valve cover gaskets. Water, oil, and temperature resistant. Allows easy removal.
