Sandy are you talking about the small case guards or the big crash bars? The case guards work pretty good but back in the day we used to refer to the crashbars as "frame benders".:P

Back in the '80s I used to travel quite a bit on KZ1000s and I always had foot pegs mounted on my case savers. I can't imagine not having someplace to stretch your legs when you are traveling. Never had a problem with this setup. I still have case savers on my '78 and think they look fine. These days I use my 'Wing for long trips.

Ya,they're the small,individual guards.
No offense to Anyone who uses the "Wing" style, but that's just too big for My liking.I really like that clean-look,but I guess I have to sacrifice something for comfort.eh.

I have them on my bikes if the crash is bad enough to smash the guard into the case think about what it would have done without it

I wound up with case guards on both of my 750's, I would rather they take the abuse of sliding down the asphalt than my buffed out engine covers. One set mounts at three points and looks more rugged than the other set that only bolts on in 2 places..

I here ya Sandy.I feel exactly the same.Ive wondered if you could mount a frame slider on the motor mount that could double as a foot peg? or a fold up peg on the frame?

Mark...I thought of that as well, but where would a Guy find a slider that length? And something that looks like it belongs, and wasn't just scabbed together?
Well I went to put the other foot-peg on,but I guess I didn't die the threads on the bolt quite long enough, cause I snapped it off right where the threads ended.I had to cut more thread on the bolts because I compressed the mounting bracket tight so it would grab the guard good, but using only one part of the mounting bracket, instead of the 2 pieces that come with the pegs.
Oh well...find another bolt this week,if I don't have one around here.
Ya Mark...that would be a good idea,but...

I've seen foot-rests instead of foot-pegs for engine guards... shaped like the brake pedal on a car, but you could mount them to the top of your engine guard rail and they wouldn't stick out any further than the guard itself.
Might be worth a shot. Cheapbikeparts.com has them in their aftermarket section.

The way I do with engine guards is like the rest of my life. I was bitten by like 20 dogs in my life. I said "No dog will EVER bite me again or it will be a battle to the death", so no more problems with dogs. I used to drink too much and get sick, and said "never again" so now I drink too much but don't get sick. I used to crash "because" I had engine guards. Well I said this and took them the hell off because they are dang ugly and interfere with engine work. I said "No engine guards so I MUST ride with care and NOT crash". So now no crashes. Great concept I must say.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
