the bigger part is the new one from Jeff. The rest of the other one is down in the motor somewhere.

That sucks Don.
Have you tried pulling the oil pan to see if it made it past everything else without causing damage and ended up there?

Actually, I've seen the whole mess drop out and go swimming in the pan and run for who knows how long before getting fished out.

It's the guide in the middle of the cylinders. I started it up to move it in the garage a month or so ago and it ran fine. I think I got lucky and the chunck fell into the pan. I'm pulling the pan off Thursday and hoping it'll just fall out.

Don,
If your motor hasn't been apart for a long, long time, then what you see is not surprising. That is a very common wear pattern and I predict you will find little more than itty bitty chunks in your oilpan. While I haven't had alot of 1000 motors apart, all the early model 1000's had this type of worn guide:). Replace all the internal rubber adjusters in your motor.

I'll take a pic when I get the pan off. Maybe even a video! I don't think the motor has ever been apart so it should be interesting to see whats inside.

ouch... i had the same thing happin the day after i bought the kz i ride now for my father some years ago. i got lucky and it was pretty much two big pieces but there was some small debree like mcdroid stated in the oil pan along with a bunch of motor sludge. the cases were split was cleand up and a lot of new parts were insatlled that were found to be wore along the way. while you are in there it might be a good idea to go ahead and replace the cam chain, camchain rollers, ect...

had the exact same thing happen to me only there was even less of my guide left then yours....never had any problems with it affecting internals since the original guide is all rubber except where it slides into the notches...had tiny black pieces of rubber for about 2 or 3 oil changes afterwards:P but doesn't seem to have affected anything...
