750B valve adjusting shims uh-oh
05 Apr 2007 09:47
So far I've been able to find most parts for the resto on this bike until... the valve adjusting shims, tried salvage yards, dealers and z1, no luck. Looking for these 32mm 230,245,and 250 shims 1 each. Thanks

I hear ya buddy. We've recently had a few threads about this. The small sizes are going to be extremely hard to find. If I were you, I'd be calling small motorcycle shops in any state you can find them, and see if they'll ship.... we'll probably all be in your shoes soon enough....

I feel for you guys, it won't be easy. Is there any possibility you can use 29.5 mm shims?

I wonder if there are many motorcycle bone yards around? There is one near me I bet you could go around and yank all the shims out of parts bikes until you found the right ones maybe? This place is kind of local to me, they have had KZ parts in the past you might be able to find them online or if not I could dig up their phone number I bet they would ship if they are willing to take the time to try and help you. It's called Sky Cycle in Lunenberg Mass (dont quote me on how to spell Lunenberg). I know with auto junk yards they have a nationwide network and ship parts all over, dunno about bikes. Hope you find what you need!

I just went through finding valve shims for my bike, luckily the smallest I needed was a 2.60 and Z1 had it. These thing are aparantly impossible to find and some places don't even know that 32mm shims exist, not listed in the parts book. I believe that KZ750 twins are the only model that used them. Good luck, and like Steell said, if you find a source let us know. I've told my used parts guy that if any KZ750 twins come in he's got a steady buyer for the shims.

It would be a lot of work, but I wonder if any modern shim-under-bucket systems can be swapped in.

Hey AR15Ron, googled Sky Cycle and got their number, will try tomorrow, thanks. Had I known something simple like shims was going to be a problem I may have reconsidered this bike. But I bought this bike last fall took it for aride around the block after finally getting it started and immediatly tore it down to the frame and motor , spent all winter cleaning polishing replacing ($$$$) not figuring something simple like valve adjustment was going to be a big deal. Well, I'm not kicking this bike to the curb, one way or another it will get adjusted. I really like this bike, torque and slender(had a 71 cb750 along time ago and always hated how wide it was) Thanks all! Hope to have pics soon and my son also has one.

Twinky. You could check with the Canadian Kawasaki Dealers. Selections might not be as picked over as the States, especially the ones located in the smaller towns. One of them might have shims collecting dust on a shelf? Just a thought. Good luck.

What about asking someone to grind some shims to reduce their height? A friend of mine already did that. He works in the aeronautics industry, and they've got high precision tools.
That would solve your problem, wouldn't it?
