Well i got curious and did some tests. hooked up an extra coil and plug, verified strong spark, then shoved it in the end of my pipe. NO FIRE! ZIP zero.

I even ran with the choke on to richen it up and revved it a bit. nuthin!

so i have 2 thoughts.
1. gonna have to add a fuel source to the pipe, no matter what
OR
2. maybe it wont work cause my open megaphone drag pipe evacuates so efficiently that theres not enough concentration of gas fumes to ignite. I dunno. maybe it would work if the plug was a lot farther forward in the exhaust....

the kit said to mount the plug 3-6 inches from the end of the pipe, dunno if that would make much difference or not

I have thought of more. I didn't quite finish. You can also hook up a line with a jet on the tip of it to work the same way a carburetor works and install this at some point in your exhaust and have a shut off valve for it. Fuel line and jet and you have your fuel. Am I right or am I right? And jet it lean or rich. With rich i get you will get more fuel for that slow turbulence going through the exhaust

Could be I'm crazy...scratch that ..jury is in ....I am..but if all these vehicles were putting out enough unburned emissions why don't LA or other places with huge traffic jams have burning traffic jams? I mean with that congestion just one fool with a cigarette should cause the Chicago fire on the freeway. I see them at car shows and figured they were adding to the exhaust some napalm or something. then again I can see a Hardley not burning fuel efficiently what would be new about that.
2nd point is if all it took was spark what exactly would put the flamethrower out? Do you have to shut the engine off? Could be my thinking problem! But I am curious......:S

I saw a thing where this guy had a dragon head on the front of his bike that shot flame 4 feet. Always wondered if he accidentally hit it it going slow if he'd melt his face off. At least he wouldn't have to shave for a while.

Gris, I think what happens with those kits is they kill the spark to a cylinder and let the petrol flow on through the exhaust. When you release the button, spark goes back to the cylinder and no more gas in the exhaust. At least that's what I recall from Horsepower TV.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but I once had the same result by accident when my exhaust baffle blew out mid-ride. I guess it created a rich mixture sitiation or something, but when I pulled up to the stoplight, it was a real show:evil:   There were a couple of guys on crotch rockets across the intersection w/ mouths agape. Unfortunately I only made it another block to my brother's house before she died:woohoo:

Arh that sounds like when we were kids and shutting off the ignition for a couple of clicks and then turning it back on to get a loud backfire until we got too ballsy an started blowing whole exhaust systems off. That was before locking steering so don't you kids try this at home! :woohoo:

I saw videos of one of the systems that kills the spark. Don't like it at all. you only get flames while the engine is off and revs are dropping. as soon as the engine runs again, flame stops. THis is opposite of what it should be. a handful of throttle should equal a blast of flame!

injecting some type of fuel into the pipe seems like the only sure way to get a good result. which also means the system is much more complex and potentially dangerous than just an extra spark plug.

Personally...I think its kinda funny that you're worried about it being dangerous.

You want to SHOOT FLAMES OUT OF YOUR MOTORCYCLE.

Of course it will be dangerous! :woohoo:

That's half the fun, right?
