Re: what is this bike worth?
30 May 2025 11:32 - 30 May 2025 11:34That big block may look like it has fins from the side but that is just for looks, a big block offers no "air cooling" as the fins are short and the block is basically solid. There are no air passages from front to back like on a stock barrel. With that high compression and those thin sleeves this engine would only be reliable for short outings in cooler weather. If you get caught in some bumper to bumper traffic on a hot day the heat off the barrel begins to effect the carb tuning (have to keep adjusting the idle)The seller wants 2200usd .The list over what is done is enormous and just too long to start write all here i maybe can try to use google translate and paste the text?
the engine is build by a known enginebuilder and they used only best parts like 5speed undercut Yoshimura gearbox
crank is Falicon stage3 race/drag handmade in usa. the rods is the strongest forged that is to buy made for dragracing.
MTC 1428cc big block. pistons MTC 11.5:1 comp. cams: andrews 3x race carbs: Mi.kuni TMR-MJN 38mm made by Yoshimura japan.
and the list goes on and on on the engine. I guess the price is almost fair .But i will have to sell my kz900 .
But starting to wonder how is this bike as a daily ride? is it made only for the dragstrip? will it owerheat fast i mean 1428 cc aircoled.
I would leave this one to somebody else and by no means sell your nice 900.

It's worth gazing at as sort of museum artifact, but not worth buying and especially not riding.

I think it would be a fun ride. And you could always bore it out to 1500cc if you felt it was a bit sluggish... 😉

For drag strip use, it's missing the air-assisted quick shifter, the wheelie bar, and the Housier tires...otherwise, it's not a motorcycle for a nice 300-mile day trip...Sure, expensive parts, and clean screwed,...but definitely NOT my bike, neither in style nor build. But that's just my humble opinion...everyone should be happy with what they like; everything else is just talk and doesn't count! That`s individualism!
Greetings, Joe

I don't see the point of building a race oriented resto-mod, out of a 50 year old core, UNLESS the journey is part of the totality. And the second owner doesn't get any of the "journey" experience and enjoyment.

To Me the sweet spot on a Kaw to be street ridden is a 1075 cc motor.
Plenty of cylinder wall thickness and good cooling .
Don't exceed 10.5 to 1 compression ratio
Still NO air cooled motor does well in traffic ,
Airflow is life to our bikes.
Now I know lots of folks run bigger cc's and higher compression but it becomes a concern in hot weather and traffic.
Or you may hear those dreaded detonation sounds coming up to your ears
Just saying all this to make the point as to what one should look for when building / and or buying a hot rod bike .
I found my answer back in the early 80's when I turbocharged my LTD.
1075 cc with 8.0 to 1 flat top pistons . I rely on boost to make power.
Turbo's can drive from ocean to ocean on shit fuel with no problems . Then run good race fuel , turn up the boost and whoop ass
Just me speaking my mind
