I spoke to a friend on the west coast who buys Kawasaki bikes, restores and then sells them.
He said usually they would be scooped up by buyers in Japan.  Lately, however, they (Japanese) are not buying anymore.

I agree. It looks pretty good & only has 10,000 miles. There's no way you could restore one for that money.

Beautiful bikes. What makes the yamaha 850 so pricey ?

The listing describes it as "rare", of course. :)

It also says "Odometer reads 3,278 miles", which is not the same as verifying it has 3,278 actual miles, but maybe that was appealing to someone.

I agree that the 76B1s still seem to be under appreciated, seeing as they were truly a "limited production" bike.  That being said 6K for that particular example makes more sense to me than 55K for a restored Z1. In my mind you should be able to buy a spectacular, ORIGINAL example for that much money.  Both prices make more sense (to me) than 33K for the Yamaha, that was assuredly a fool and his money parted!

I was at the auction on Tuesday looking at bikes.
2000 motorcycles, long rows, I would walk down one side of the row then back on the other side of the row.
First time there, I had a good time on Tuesday, recommended for entertainment with or without bidding.

>>>>>>>>>>Beautiful bikes. What makes the yamaha 850 so pricey ?
Someone want it, they may have had one when they were young, brings back good memories

>>>>>>>>>>He said usually they would be scooped up by buyers in Japan.  Lately, however, they (Japanese) are not buying anymore.
The yen has fallen in value in comparison to US$, the Japanese stopped buying.

>>>>>>>>>>I can believe how cheap the rare one year only ‘76B1 still is.
Old motorcycles are only worth whatever someone will pay, rarity has no effect on price.
