I recently received this e-mail:

I could not post on your site the meaning of CSR which is also the purpose of folks working for USA companies & gov. which means: Customer Service Rep. ! Remember that Japanese bikes were sold around the World in the 1980's ! Cheers ! Write me!
Sincerely,
Nils

I'm pretty sure he's for real.
Just what does CSR stand for?

I think this is one of those forever-debated things that we may never resolve. This thread makes about six different things people have claimed it means.

CruiSeR
Chrome Spoked Rims (?)
Continential Stateside Replica
Caesar Salad Recipe
Competition Sports Road
1982 KZ750 Spectre - 6 speed swap, BS34s, 18" rear wheel

2001 ZX-6R

So for the kz650-SR, what did the "SR" stand for?  Maybe the later CSR is a "Custom SR"?

Yeah, saw that one.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Now that I think about it, what was wrong with the LTD?  Why add the SR and CSR and Spectre? Why did Kawasaki need so many different models with the same high bars and stepped seat?

I reckon that is what buyers wanted most, though my 750 LTD was a leftover model from the previous year.

It could be that Nils is expressing interest in a Kawasaki CSR, and if English is not his native language, the phrasing and syntax are scrambled.

slmjim spent the first half of his career as a field Tech servicing photocopiers that were designed & built in Japan.  The original service manuals were written in Japanese, then translated by people who had a loose grasp, at best, of English, but the translation was sometimes quite tortured.
For instance:
The sentence in a Toshiba analog photocopier manual circa late 1970'a that reads "All parts of the unit are either inside or outside the unit." seems self evident.  But, in the context of the developer unit being discussed, a needless distinction was drawn between the drive mechanism on the copier's chassis, the driven components (gears mostly) on the outside of the developer unit itself, and the developer agitation components and bias voltage connections internal to the developer unit.

Perhaps one of the most infamous lines of Japlish in the laser printer industry instructs the Tech to touch a grounded surface to discharge any static electricity before handling any of four very expensive, static-sensitive LED print heads in a color printer.  One only has to apply some creative translation to the translation.  This is a direct copy from the service manual of a Kyocera color printer:
"Before removing the LED print head, sufficiently do to let escape the static electricity which is electrified in the human body concerning the metal part and the like of the aqueduct faucet, after that do that work."

CSR may very well mean cruiser, but I've never seen any documentation to that effect.
cruiser is in some ads but nothing I've seen says csr = cruiser.

Kawasaki could have borrowed the acronym from the Matchless G12 CSR which was a "high performance" 650 parallel Twin.
The Matchless designation was "Competition.Sprung.Roadster."  with tongue in cheek I say it means Competition, Sports & Road.  :)
