The tach is cable driven. Its super accurate without any needle bounce. When the motor hits 3,000RPM, its starts to move the needle.
Yes, it does have a light. The rubber grommet and bulb fits into the tube you see on backside of tach.
These tachs were also used on Kawasaki's 24 hour Endurance bikes so they needed a light to illuminate the gauge during the night time hours.

The knob is handy to reach while seated, and the mechanism functions smooothly,
Making fine and precise idle adjustment is just plain EZ.
I decided to incorporate the original Mikuni adjustment screw instead of the black plastic knob that was used on my prototype.
