USA license plate! was created by Sheath
Hey everyone :) a good friend of mine who passed away in April gave me a nice u.s license plate roughly a year ago, over the years he imported a lot of u.s bikes and he only drove American cars his whole life! Of course they all had to have English registration plates so he ended up with lots of American plates, he had a feeling this was from a 900, I wonder if there's a way of finding out? Also they're much more interesting than English license plates and I love the state slogans you find on them :)

I bet the owner of that plate was a Smith and Wesson revolver fan.

If you contact the DMV in Minnesota, they might, just might, give you some information about the bike that plate came from.

(I lived in Minn. briefly, and had a bad experience with the local DMV office. Finally had to hire an attorney to get my paperwork from them. Many unpleasant memories from my time there.)

Wow an attorney to get paperwork from the dmv....terrible! When I hear dmv I always think of Patty and Selma non stop smoking with a big queue of people forming! I might contact the Minnesota dmv just for fun! See how boring the uk licence plate is!

If you go in person to the DMV you know right away you're in trouble because Patty picks up her red pen. On the phone you won't know till the end if you're heading for trouble.

Ha ha that's true  and we had a few cars around that time with risky fixed hood ornaments too! One strange license plate variation I've seen is in the classic Aussie 1974 stone movie, almost every bike has a front facing plate just ahead of the forks, 5 years later in mad max none of the bikes had a front plate.... was it a rule that was scrapped in those 5 years? Or were there different rules for different territories ? Maybe an Australian member can tell us? :)

You have to know someone or be a cop, I was able to find out if a vanity plate was available many years ago because I knew someone that worked as a radio dispatcher for the state, the person checked it out for me but was not happy to do it and told me so, these day you can go online to see if one is available.
About 40 years ago I witnessed someone who called up the state police and pretended to be a police officer from somewhere and knew exactly what to say to get info on a plate and owner, he got it and I'm sure that it was highly illegal, but this guy was a very dangerous person and wasn't worried in the least.
Long story short, It's a cool plate and I don't think you will have much luck searching for the owner of a 22 year old plate unless you hire a private investigator.
TexasKZ probably has it right

Ha ha cool story :) that's funny here in the uk you can go on to the d.v.l.a ( driver vehicle licensing agency) website and put any plate in then it tells you the day and month of first registration, the exact model and colour of the vehicle and it's entire yearly test history like if it's had welding etc in the last few years , also you can type in a plate from an old uk show or movie say from the 90s and find out about it and when it was last on the road! Oh yeah I've got one more cool plate ,my mums ex boyfriend from Oshawa gave it to me, once again I have no idea what it's from though!

my friend has a lovely 67 vw beetle and the plate is HOT 67 5E :) it's a shame the plate isn't on a muscle car really cos there were plenty of awesome cars in 67, we have a "usa" diner every 30 miles or so in the uk and although they put effort in I think a real American would laugh! Fake license plates everywhere, fiberglass life size elvis and maralyn Monroe figures, pictures of James Dean playing pool with John Wayne! Some have the front end of a pink caddy Eldorado on the wall inside and one has a fiberglass spiderman on the roof! Oh and most of the time the serving staff are eastern European!
