If you think the 650 is heavy and if that's not a good feeling for you then you won't like the 1000.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Whether 650 or 1000cc is a very personal choice. I am physically larger than average (6'3", 220lb), and I am addicted to the torque of liter bikes. I certainly appreciate the nimbleness of a lighter machine, but will likely stick to the larger engined ones.
As mentioned above, be absolutely certain that the 1000 will not be in even worse mechanical and electrical shape than the 650 since that seems to be your main priority in this.

Call me curious, but how do you explain that the Honda 750 and the KZ750 twin shown in your pics of your bikes (above) are the same bikes pictured in JWKZ750's posting of his bikes (below)? Ed

Because thats my OLD login. I have since wrapped the pipes, put on a sidebag and grab bar, and taken off the white grips. They got dirty too quickly no matter what I did:

Im 6'2 175. I dont mind the heaviness of the 650., its nimble enough. My Honda CB 900F Super Sport weighs a TON but it feels light. If the KZ1000 is nimble, I wont mind.

Look at the wheel base. It should give you some idea of nimbleness. Rake angle too.

I occasionally ride my wife's 550 and it's a far more nimble machine than my KZ1000.
