Don't feel bad about the asking price. There are VERY few folks who sell a bike and get back all the money they put into it. Consider the money not returned as the cost of the pleasure you got riding the bike. Ed

Gorgeous bike! Ed is correct, You NEVER recoup the actual costs on anything, unless it was acquired for little to none in the first place.

I was selling a running, HD Sporty clean titled in my name on CL, a few years back and out of the slew of mortons wanting to >trade< me a yamaha blaster or some POS.. well this dip-stick offered to trade me a full on "custom" cobbled up Kz440 bobber thing.. OR i could buy it outright for $3500.00..
And the kicker was, it did not run (he said needed wired). The stupidity is rampant now days. Perhaps toss in a nintendo pac-man too? duh. It is something to really push home. :-)

PURE custom. This is only one example in the endless "improvements" that can be done to one little bike. Love the custom suicide shifter and custom rear fender from his description in the emails. I was selling a running XLH1000 for 1800.00, yet had more enjoyment in pushing that one around too. I just wonder if he had two left arms, or just did not use the clutch when he shifts.?

Check out the cobble job on the frame and in front of the seat.

This is the bike I was selling. A pic from my ad.

Sooo WHERE are these idiots that might buy a cobblebobber for $3500.00 when I can't get my money back out of a running, ridable HD ironhead?

I paid $1700 (too much) for that XLH, straightened out a thoroughly screwed up title (counted 8 people had changed hands without registering it) and fixed numerous problems and only was able to get 1800.00 out of it after advertising it for 3 months.

It's not fair, I tell ya! All I get are idiots that think I'm even stupider than they are wanting to TRADE me junk for my nice bikes. :-)

This is just one of the examples of what a mechanical genius the PO's were. They had stripped it , then cross threaded spark plug thing in the hole. I bought a tap and actually put a real magnetic drain plug in place of the spark plug. Also check out the headlight wiring at the neck.

Who would buy any of these pictured? Lot of original owners probably turning over in their graves if they could see the stuff guys do, and still ask full price thebike sold for when new. All pictured are $500 value max.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Actually the Kz440 cobblebobber might bring closer to 300, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I may be going out on a limb here, but I can assure you my ironhead drew a solid $1800.00 cash. I needed the money, or I might have held out for more, but .. The cobblebobber trade is a different story entirely.
I was so aghast with the preposterous trade offer that I could not resist hammering this guy a few times. Here is a copy / paste with the initial email.:

It makes one wonder about the mentality of the guy who owned the KZ440. Did he really believe it was worth anywhere near $3800? Ed
