1975 900 Z1B vs. KZ?

A friend of mine tells me his friend has a 1975 KZ900 for sale. I’m telling him the KZ was 76 and above, a 75 would be a Z1.
He checked and said his friend told him the title says 1975 KZ900. I know titles can have mistakes. I’ll be going to look at it in a couple of weeks. Is there somewhere that I can get information on VIN numbers and Engine numbers so that when I see it I can determine exactly what it is?

zedder.com has info on Kaw models and engine and frame numbers. The frame number is used to title in many states. There will be a manufacturing date which is often the previous year (they were making a model in Sep-Dec time frame which goes on sale as the next years model). Although the Z1B many have a bit more collectible value, the KZ900 is a better bike; better frame bracing and improved carburetors (only my personal opinion on the last)>
