Hey all! My first "real" bike was a '78 KZ650, been looking for another KZ for a while. I found a '76 KZ900 A4, second owner, a few mods....only issue I can see is a tiny ding in the tank. I've looked at the bike twice now and only noticed it because the angle of the sun was right. He has the original paperwork, a few original parts and a whole stack of receipts. Runs perfect. He's at $5500.....thoughts?

What kind of mileage? Does he have the stock seat? $5,500.00 is steep, $3,500.00 more likely. What sort of exhaust system is on it?
By the way: Welcome to KZR!

I see what the book value of these are....not sure if that's what people are getting. From what I've seen it's around 6-8k.

May be two owners and a nice looking bike.
But
I see LTD seat 16inch hog rear wheel with spokes. KZ = 18 inch rear spoke wheel. LTD = 16 inch mag wheel
Fenders are KZ Tank is KZ, .... Looking at rear foot peg area reminds me of LTD frame.
What is VIN numbers for engine and frame ???

Typically, the big money is in show-quality restoration to factory specs. Modified bikes rarely bring top dollar unless done by a well known builder like Sanctuary.
Now, none of that may matter to you. If this bike is as nice as it looks, and it runs, turns and stops as new, then it really comes down to how much you are willing to pay for what you are getting. Will it give you $5,000 worth of smiles?

Personally, I think it is probably worth closer to the $3,500 mark, but I haven't shopped the market lately.

1982 KZ1000 LTD parts donor
1981 KZ1000 LTD awaiting resurrection
2000 ZRX1100 not ridden enough

I know the rear rim was changed out, he does have the stock. I've asked for the VIN....

Buy it ride it or_____________
buy a hacked up repainted ( black of course) 76 kz900 for $2k-$2500 and it will need everything.
Buy a decent 76 kz900 for $3500 or more with original paint and it will again need everything . What I mean by everything is tires tubes, chains sprockets , chrome parts, prolly exhaust etc. after that you'll want new spokes , new paint etc. . Get the wallet out.
Buy a super nice all original kz900 or one that has been restored for $6k-$7k or more.
Or buy that bike fill the petrol tank and hit the road.. I'd have a 18" rear rim laced to the hub. Never understood the ugly HOG wheel. I'd also toss the LTD seat in the dumpster and get an original flat seat just sayin

I just don't want to take in up the waz when it's time to sell it. I've been looking for some time, and you're right...the ones that need some work are all over. There's a 78 1000 LTD up north from me that I could probably get for 3-3500. Not nearly as clean as this one. Not sure I'm familiar with a HOG Wheel? Is that a Harley wheel they put on them?
