How often do you change your oil?
I have put about 1,000 miles on my KZ since April. April is when I last changed the pil and Im thinking its time again.
I looked up oil on Autozone and got this:

What the heck? Just 5 months ago oil was like $4.99 a quart. Not only for this reason, but many others, the world has gone MAD. Everything is incredibly expensive, sucking any joy our of life.

Like in California they are soaking us as much as they can before they're thrown out or stopped. Our fault for letting it happen for 50+ years. If they have their way we all will be on foot, bicycles or their stupid trains to nowhere. Look up Agenda 21. Says it all.

With only 1000 miles on the oil you may just want to extend a little longer.
Shell Rotella is a great motorcycle oil and it's quite reasonably priced.

Yes, good old Rotella T 15W40 Diesel engine oil.....standard mineral oil, non synthetic. JASO MA rated / approved. Very reasonable price, and works well in our old, relatively slow revving KZ engines.....I buy it by the 5 gallon pail when it goes on sale where I am. I use it in old tech stock engines below 10 000 RPM. First start up / initial break-in of any new rebuilt engines always with Rotella T.....
The CBX's and high performance old KZ stuff gets JASO MA semi - synthetics after break-in (Can-Am's, Brad Penn, Suzuki's, or Yamaha's brands of oil), and the 10 000 + RPM new stuff (R1's, GSXR's) get full synthetics....but at something like 5 times the cost of the Rotella T.....
2-04 R1, 81 CSR1000, 81 LTD1000, 2-83 GPz1100, 3-79CBX, 81 CBX, 3-XS650, 84 Venture, +parts
Quote "speed costs money...how fast do you want to go?" (Which Z movie?)
Universal formula for how many motorcycles one should own = n + 1, where n is how many motorcycles you own right now....

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Autozone is not the place to buy oil. Walmart sell the Valvoline for $3.94 a quart last I checked. Rotella 15W40 always works too. For sure don't use 15w or 20w in cold weather unless you kick start, as electric won't cut it. Kick will be a 75 kick affair in cold weather. Stay with 10W40, still can be bought at Walmart for $3.94 a quart
