Side bag source for KZ650? was created by drakhen99
I'm not sure this is the right sub-forum, so mods, please move if I got it wrong.

That said, I am looking for a right-side bag for my 79 KZ650SR. I don't need to carry much, but a bottle of water or coffee, cigars for pit stops, sunscreen. Nothing too fancy or big. I have seen a few pics of bikes with single side bags, and I think they look neat, and would fit the bill for what I am looking to do with the bike.

I tried a few searches, but came up empty-handed, so any help is appreciated.

My last resort will be getting a magnetic tank bag, but I'd rather go this route first.

Thanks,

-John

You might want to think about rack and a small trunk box,

I've found on my Concours I like it better with the side bags off and just the trunk for around town riding
they make the bike feel and ride a lot wider little thing's like getting on and off and kicking them, parking spot's change also
it's a lot easier to back in a spot without the bags

Thanks - I may go with a trunk pack.

What I was originally thinking about was what I saw on this bike:

While I'm at it ... anyone know what engine guard that guy has on his bike? That'd be great for me, I could put highway pegs on and stretch out my legs. I've got knee problems that make it painful to ride more than a half hour or so in the KZ's riding position.

Thanks,

-John

I want case guards. The crash bar I have has my legs out too far using the pegs. Like Ape Hangers for my legs. I don't use them.

I saw case guards on eeeBBBaaayyy, but they may only be for the 650. They'd work too, but I am unsure of which to order that'll allow me to mount pegs. Either case or engine guards will work for me. On my Vaquero, I got the extended mounts for the pegs (they're either a 3" or 6" length), and mounted them at an angle. That way my short legs can reach them just fine, and they're in the perfect place for long-distance cruising :D

I bought a surplus military gas mask and attached the bag to the frame just behind the side cover. Held some tools, custom small jumper cables, bag of zip ties, bungee cords and a parking puck.
