This blog post is dedicated to every rider who’s sick to death of those “motorcycles are so dangerous” conversations, to every mother who’s convinced her son or daughter is insane for riding, and for anyone who needs a really good excuse to go out and buy a bike. The bottom line is that riding a motorcycle is a form of low-impact exercise that improves muscle tone, can assist with weight loss, and has a multitude of health benefits. These health benefits include but are not limited to:

Healthier, stronger knees and thighs: A well-known orthopaedic surgeon in Indy once told me that motorcycle riders have fewer knee problems because riding a bike strengthens key muscles used to hold the patella and other bones in the knee in place. He told me that riding a motorcycle may reverse knee pain and problems and can most definitely prevent them. Most of the key muscles used to hold knee bones in place reside in the thigh. Ever notice that chicks that ride bikes have nice thighs? There’s a reason! Additionally, backing a bike into a parking spot, especially uphill, is basically like doing leg presses with a 600 pound weight. It works!

I can attest to that. Plus timing and coordination improved. It boosted my moral and I look forward to another ride even if it is just to the market and back. I leave out a few things so I can ride again the next day. For 15 years I watched others riding their bikes. When the tranny went out on my Euro, I looked at the car then the bike. I chose the bike. Haven't regretted it since. :woohoo:

This reminds of why I still ride.
My first bike was a cast bore 125 twin Yami (the deep red and chrome), when I got my licence my dad refused to let me ride the bike to school, so I took my bicycle and got cleaned up by a lady in a volks Bug, She claimed she didn't see me bright orange vest. I still have back issues from this accident.

My parents have never tried to stop me from riding the bike since then, so I only had a car to tow the trailer and jetski.

When I met my now wife I told her before we marry "never" to let me choose between her and the Z1R because I'll ask her to walk. Anyway during some hard times I tried to trade the Z1R for faster models BUT my wife got me back by stating the Z will never be traded or sold, so in a way she won BUT since I still have the Z1R and I've had many other bikes I guess I also won.

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

Dont know about that. Ive been riding bikes, exclusively, since I was a teenager. Never owned or drove a car. My knees are really giving me gip now.
I must say though, that when a car pulls out in front of you,its a good cure for constipation!

I've been riding since I was 15, but since I turned 68 I find that the car is so much more comfortable. I guess it's time to start selling off some of the bikes and the pile of spare parts.

I live near Portland, Oregon and my rider is a '76 KZ900 I bought new. I'm also in the process of restoring another one and a '73 Z1.

MSM glucosamine, chondrotin.
If you guys feel old, I have no problem trading my $40 Walmart bicycle for your KZ1000. It seems like uneven trade and I have to charge extra , because your KZ is nothing comparing to 10 years extension of your life you'll get by switching to a bicycle. I feel old every time I skip my 35 min. morning run.

That is completely and utterly untrue.

It's a workout, certainly, but as long as the bike is actually rolling - and not being lifted - the load on the legs is nowhere near the full weight of the bike.

Also parking a bike in a spot that has such a noticeable uphill grade is a bad idea.
