Cost when new? was created by missionkz
OOPS!
Didn't meant to post this here.

I was digging through my old titles and registrations, I found my old sales receipt for my 1977 KZ1000A1, which I still drive ...as of just yesterday!!
I paid a whopping $2080.00 for it, new at he Kaw dealership in Livonia, Michigan .
Wonder how that compares to 2016 dollars.
I put $500.00 cash down and financed the rest on a 36 month loan.
Clear title shows I paid it off in early 1979.

***************
Just looked it up:
$8,221.00

Guess the ultra modern 2016, $10,000.00 bike is not such a bad deal.

I paid $2300 for my Z1 in 75. It had 84 miles on it. My family was trying to get me to buy a Ford Courier or Chevy Luv truck for about that price. Sure glad I didn't listen to them. B)

yup. That $2080.00 was no tax or dealer fees.
I don't think I'd take twice that for it now at 39 years old.

I wouldn't. All kinds of bikes pass by but none of them get the attention Bossie gets wherever she goes. Might be old school but so is the rider. :woohoo:

Yes. Every time I go out riding with my buddies, no matter where, high country mountains, farm land or city riding, my KZ always draws the attention and the other new bikes are pretty much ignored!!
Really bums out my friends! LOL!

Well, in 1975 I was just getting my ass smacked for the first time (by a doctor...what else?) so I can't really relate to that one. My first brand new bike was a 2000 GSXR750 which I rode off on for a shade under $8k, So yes, I'd say a modern $10k price tag is comparable.

From 73-75 the bikes were "top of the food chain." The 1000's came out but other makes were coming out around that time as well. It was fun while it lasted. There are faster, better handling bikes but you can't buy the memories. B)

If you paid $2000 for a new 77 KZ1000 you got one heck of a good deal. A KZ650 sold for $2000 list back then, the KZ1000 was $3000 give or take. I bought the new KZ650 because I couldn't fathom spending the extra $1000. Some prices I remember give or take a few hundred bucks.
1979 Honda CBX $3999
1978 Z1R $3600
1982 GPZ1100 $4499
1983 GPZ750 $3399
1978 KZ750 twin $1800
1986 Yamaha FZ750 $4900
1988 Yamaha FZR1000 $5800
Prices have gone up over the years, but a motorcycle is still a huge bargain. Prices went up drastically in 1984 due to the Harley Davidson bailout that raised prices 25% from 1983 to 1984 on big Japanese motorcycles.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I think I paid around 2100.00 for my 77 650 custom , the stock 650's were about 1800, the 1000's were over 2300

I put money down sight unseen and got the choice of the first 2 customs that came in 6 months later a blue one and the silver one, I think the prices went up after that.

Dang it. Yeah. You're right.
My wife just pointed out that my crappy eyes fail me on this old piece of paper and it actually says $2880.00. ☹️
Still happy with the purchase 39 years later.
