1980 kz1000, learn me up. was created by MadShad
Ok, I will start by saying that I've not been able to read up on this, so I'm asking for help from people who already know.
I'm currently at work and don't have the time to look this stuff up and I'm heading straight from here to go see the bike.

1980 kz1000 (g? H?) fuel injected.
The bike has been converted back to carbs, my main question is how is the timing advance controlled on these bikes? Is it tied into the injection system? Anything computer controlled?Any problems that could come up when someone converts it back to carbs?
Just trying to figure out what I might get myself into that I dont see coming.

I was told it runs bit poorly, was told the carbs have been rebuilt but I don't know the skill level of the person who did the work.

Any info is welcome, thanks again.

I think the timing advance is the same except its electronic ignition. Looking at the book, it looks like the FI can be taken off leaving the ignition intact. What carbs have been installed?

Not sure, all I can tell from the pictures is that they're non cv.
Profile looks similar to my vm24's but I can't zoom in far enough to see for sure if the look like mikuni or tk or something different.

If they're CV, that's not a big deal. I'm tempted to get some myself. It will run well on 26's and they are pretty cheap. Can you post a pic or link? I was going to offer to take pics of the chapter on this model if you'd like. Yeah it's a clymer but I got it for the wide range of bikes it covers. I have a Z1 too. Let me know and I will e-mail or post the pics.

Here's the pics I'm working with.
I'm getting on my gpz550 in just a few minutes to go look at it.
I'd really like to see yhis thing sitting in my garage later tonight.

Those look like 28's. Good carbs though hard to keep in sync. I still have mine and ran them for 30 some years. Nice bike, I don't blame you. :woohoo:

Still has the kick start. That's a plus. B) A Z1 air box will go right on and are cheap at Z1E or z1partsinc.

Twin fuel feeds for the rack of carbs, foes that sound right?

Good deal, upon hooking up my aux fuel tank it promptly started puking fuel out of #2 "professionally rebuilt" carbs.
Why am I not surprised.

Looks like I have my plans for tomorrow.
