Backpack for riding

I ride with a backpack 95% of the time, and I use a cheap but durable and nice Ogio Clutch pack. Cheap at just over $50 and has served me well. I wouldn't say that it is watertight but I did get caught in a nasty downpour for 30 min last week and all of the contents were dry and safe. I don't like any added bags or farces disrupting how the bike looks when I am off it so I just haul everything I need on my person so I don't have to add storage to the bike. Certainly not the right answer for everyone but it works well for me, just my two cents Here is a link to the backpack I use:

I went and picked up those bags last night. Between the sport bag and the tank bag I should have enough room for everything I take during the week.

The tail bag is big enough for my lunch, coffee, jacket liner, my warm gloves, light gloves and a few other things. This climate here necessitates taking the warmer and lighter gear. It can be in the 40-50s in the morning and in the 70-80s in the afternoon. It has expandable sides that give it another inch each way.

The other bag is pretty big. About the size of a medium sized gym bag. I don't think I'll use it much except for longer rides that I might take rain gear and such.

The tank bag is nice, it can hold my phone and chargers, misc gear I would like to have relative quick access to although the magnets don't hold quite well enough to allow one handed access easily. I can even have room for my bike cams and hardware.

A quick snap after I got to work. The bag was more on the tail when I left but if it wants to be on the seat it works for me. It took just a few seconds to grab everything off the bike.

You can add some flat magnets to the bottom of your tank bag to secure it better. Here's my bag, it expands if needed.

Stick with a tank bag. Last time I had one on was in March 1984 when I was rear-ended by a car at a stoplight. The backpack led to the breaking of my left collarbone. Been down since but no broken collarbones.

Secondly, the tank bag will help the bike keep a lower center of gravity than a backpack will, all things being equal.

Collapsed, it's about the size of a backpack. Holds a hoodie and a few other do-dads nicely.

No backpacks.... Thats for sure.


Not that I would be in a situation to high side my 650, but I get the point.

The pack didn't seem to have any bad effects but it could have. Out here the drug couriers use back packs so they can dump them in a hurry. They usually don't get the chance. That's the first place LE looks for contraband. Not saying you would do that but being it's on your person, they can search it without a warrant.
