I've been fortunate that I could probably break even on most of my restorations (if I ever chose to sell them). However, the reward for me is not measured in Dollar$. Your numbers aren't even close, but I'll go with them. $4K purchase and $1K parts for a total investment of $5K . KBB sale value of $9K. That's a 56% ROI! Beats the hell out of anything else in my portfolio.

As long as some HACK doesn't get it, puts on used mismatched parts, mungs it up, cheaps out on the engine work, then try's to sell it as original, It'll get at least that.
The price will keep the lowlives away. Good thing too. It deserves better. :woohoo:

Or, as my wife frequently reminds me...IF you ever sell it(at all). My attitude is that if I buy stock, and the Company crashes tomorrow (Enron anyone?), what have I got...nothing. If the same thing would happen with a bike's value, I've still got a bike to ride and enjoy!IF it goes for 9.
Do a search on alternative investing and you'll find classic cars are currently one of the hottest investment markets. Although not as large, the same principals apply to motorcycles. The supply has stopped and the demand is still going.
That all just a story for my wife's "how many bikes do you need?"question. Truth is I buy bikes because I like them. Dealers buy based on resale value.

If they sell for 9k, 4k price is a good deal.
