I had a 74 H2 that failed inspection 3 times.
1. Headlight didn't work - I showed them the switch on the handlebars and they were amazed. It's like they had never seen an older bike before.
2. Headlight didn't stay on without the engine running - had show them the manual that this was the way the bike was made and that law wasn't in place in 1974.
3. Rear turn signals were only 10" from center of tail/brake light and they needed to be a minimum of 12". Are you fricken kidding me! I made some extensions with black iron pipe nipples just to get it passed and pulled them off as soon as I got home.
Fortunately older KZ's now qualify for "historic" tags which has no safety inspection requirements.

Consider yourself lucky!. In Maryland, to get new tags, any "safety" device that came on the bike when it was new has to in place and operational to pass the safety inspection Once it passes, anything goes until its resold.I live in Texas. All we need is tail light and headlight and a working horn.
