I forgot to mention Bandit 1200.

There is no difference between ZN and KZ, at least I don't know.
I found difference between Zephyr and KZ:
KZ has generator, Zephyr has alternator (car type) and it is in different place. (see picture)

KZ has magneto:
An alternator that uses a permanent magnet for its magnetic field is called a magneto.

Not all KZ models use permanent magnets. Your KZ may have a magneto - my KZ has an alternator. ;) Ed

It generates alternating current.

I thought, if it has a magnet, it is generator. I guess I was wrong. It is first time in my life!!!!

Ok here is what I always thought. A generator produces DC voltage, An alternator produces AC voltage.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

ZR1100. not mine.

This bike is gorgeous! Wow! :woohoo:
I thought the designation - KZ - was unique to North America where the rest of the world calls them simply - Z -
Clearly, this bike above is a descendant of the bikes we call KZ or Z.
Aren't we really just referring to Kawasaki street bikes regardless of nomenclature?

It is not a question of definition, it is whatever manufacturers call it. It is up to Japanese guy translating service manual.

Lost in translation. We have words they never heard of. My German boss loved the slang that would come out of my mouth. He'd find a way to use them until I told him he was sounding like a drunken BIKER. :woohoo:
