1977 KZ650 ad

Most likely picking this bad boy up today. Wanted your thoughts on price as well as the shape the bike is in.

AD:I have for sale a Kawasaki KZ650. Runs strong. Crazy fast. New tires. New NOS tank. New battery. New taillight. Brakes work. Lights work. No rips in seat. All fluids are fresh. 5 speed transmission. This bike has been modified obviously. 21k miles on the odometer. It's a head turner. This bike is the first year of the KZ650. It has a revolutionary performance pedigree. Get it now before the price increases for the summer season. Have title in hand.

He is asking 2000

You asked so:
1q) It's not a complete bike.
2q) It's been chopped-up.
3q) It looks damn cool if you like that style.

1a) Biggest problem I have with it for the price is it's incomplete. In my mind paying full price for an old bike, I want all of the bike including all it's fenders, signal lights, horn, side panels, original seat etc.
2a) Because it's been chopped up, you're going to find yourself without a great resource - this forum - because everyone is going to assume your "kz650" has original wiring (for example), stock air box et cetera. Make diagnosing problems a lot more difficult if you gotta explain "oh, the bike was previously modified and I have no idea what the PO did...".
3a) It's hard to deny that bike looks cool but try not to fall in love with the appearance or re-styling. He's asking full price for what would be a completely stock, in really, really good condition example.

I wouldn't give $500 for it, but I prefer the stock configuration. Keep in mind that the guy is hyping the bike to sell it. saying it's crazy fast is a bunch of hyperbole. yes, a 650 is fast, but a modern sportbike will blow that thing away.

Ask yourself how much you could sell it for tomorrow if you bought it today & how quickly could you unload it at $2k?
especially if you needed the cash for an emergency?

At least it runs & he has a title, so that's good. still priced high, though, imho.

Seller is FULL of BS! That is nothing even remotely resembling a new old stock (NOS) fuel tank, so what else is he lying about? Ed

No way $2000.00, Your first clue is, anyone who uses Emgo pod filters on their build is doing it on the cheap. Makes me wonder what other cheap methods he used building it. Also notice the tank does not fit level on the back. It looks like it is slightly lifted indicating he cut corners and did not pay attention to the small details. That is a $500 bike at the most.
I built and sold this one about 3 years for $3,000. That build included a powder coated frame and wheels, A top end including new cam chain and big bore Wiseco 810cc kit, show quality paint, new everything, tires tubes, handlebar, shocks, chain sprockets, ect. It was essentially a brand new bike, all tuning was done, ready to ride for years. For $2000 I expect the bike to be a nice daily rider, needing no work at all.

$2000 is about $1500 too much! The seller is insane asking that much for that bike. Ed

I agree with the others; no way that bike is worth anything near $2000. It's a hack job so figure on it being worth (at most) 1/2 that of a similar stock bike.

That's what they do, hack it up, take damaged parts off, squirt it with paint and it's a $200 cafe racer. Don't be a victim. :dry:

I think you seriuosly need some study time to reconsidering buying ANY motorcycle, especially if you think that turd is worth $2000.00!

"New Battery"...Where? Maybe he just put new "D"cells in the headlight.
