I have found a very nice 1982 KZ1000 LTD, I was wondering what the differences between the two models were. As much information as anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

The LTD had more of a cruiser stance with fatter rear tire on smaller diameter wheel, higher handlebars, etc. The regular KZ1000 had more of the sport bike stance. Ed

The standard had spoke wheels and flat seat, much more classic looking imho! Here's a pic of my 77 1000a ( it's got the saddleman seat so a standard comes with flat which I'm getting soon enough) also the pipes are not stock...

I want a Saddle man. My butt is too hard. The one I have looks good but after 100 miles, :pinch:

On a long ride like to B.C I got used to standing up when getting close to home. Then I had a saddle man I had covered and same thing till I bit the bullet and bought a Corbin. I like them but need more room to squirl around even still its the most comfortable

I had a King/Queen. It was nice but I couldn't move around on it. I got the stock style but now I regret it. I put more foam in it, that helped a little.

Good information, thanks; will the LTD support the 1000A flat seat? or is the frame different in that area?

Be a bit careful here...the early model KZ1000 (1977-1980 LTD) had interchangeable seats with the 1977-1978 standard model (KZ1000A. BUT, the later models (so-called J series) 1981-1982 KZ1000 LTD did not have interchangeable seats with the 1981-1982 KZ000 J (standard) model...and early models (1977-1980) did not interchange seats with 1981-1982 models

Along with the different seat and bars already mentioned....77/78 Standards came with a larger (to my mind nicer) tank, wire wheels with single front disc as stock, most came with drum rear brake and some with rear disc brake......LTDs had alloy wheels with dual front discs and rear disc stock, smaller tank, no center stand, shorter front fender....and very strangely was rated with 2 more hp....I still haven't figured out where that comes from

Both of my LTD 1000s (1981 and 1982) have centre stands. As indicated above, the 1981 and newer frames are different from the earlier ones. For example, the backbone - headstock area was redesigned to reduce flex in that area.

i'm pretty sure the last rear drum brake used on the big 4 bikes was 1976.
From 1977' on they used disc front and back.
The LTD bikes have a slightly different tank with the rear of the tank a tiny bit more vertical so the LTD seat fits better but seats and tanks are interchangeable.
